The focus of this field guide is the photography and illustration. I wanted to create a guide that artistically depicted the striking details of Agave plants. The front cover contains a photo that embodies the alien like nature of Blue Agave; with an outreaching leaf made up of unique blue-green shades of color, patterning, and incredibly sharp thorns.
I chose to make the background of the spreads a photo of an agave leaf so that as you read the text you are also seeing all the intricate details of the plant. The traditional pencil sketches of the agave plants juxtapose the colored background photo, increasing readability.
